a novel read...

I read the novel One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd by Jim Fergus over the Christmas holidays...and loved it. I could barely put it down and had to keep reminding myself that it was actually ficticious. 

Rain, rain, go away. It's still teeming down at the moment and is supposed to hang around for the next couple of days. Thankfully I had no particular Australia Day plans set for tomorrow...but I can imagine there'll be quite a number of cancelled barbeques and picnics.

It's also an extra long weekend for me as my office was kind enough to close on Friday, so I'll have plenty of time to cut out this dress, and put a border on the charm quilt that I started on Christmas Day (it's the Coming Home quilt from Camille Roskelley's book, Simplify - Quilts for the Modern Home) but I made mine a little larger with use of a second charm pack. I love all of her quilts and have already picked out which one I'd like to start next!

cotton box

My new custom-made cotton box is just too cute not to share. Due to all of my recent sewing projects, my cotton collection was fast outgrowing the container I had previously been storing them in. They needed a new home…and it had to be pretty!

I had a couple of lovely wooden craft boxes with clear lids that I was yet to find a use for, so after giving them a little trim down with a circular saw (my boxes were initially quite deep) they were joined together back to back, painted, and lined with patterened paper – gorgeous! 

 

 

I love the fact that it is reversible, so when the first tray is full I can just flip it over and have a new rainbow of colours on the other side.
